A group of six BA (hons) fine art graduates held an exhibition titled 'Journey' at Eastbridge Hospital in Canterbury. This is their first collaboration, each bring a very different interpretation of the meaning of Journey; consisting of installation, painting, ceramics and sculpture.

'Inside the snow globe on my father's desk, there was a penguin wearing a red-and-white-striped scarf. When I was little my father would pull me onto his lap and reach for the snow globe. He would turn it over, letting all the snow collect on the top, then quickly invert it. The two of us watched the snow globe fall gently around the penguin. The penguin was alone in there, I thought, I worried for him, When I told my father this, he said, "Don't worry, Susie; he has a nice life. He's trapped in a perfect world." Alice Sebold, The Lovely Bones.'
A Pilgrim's Road
Mixed media installation 2012
Nova Marshall
'Pilgrims carry money to pay tolls, make offerings at shrines, to purchase tokens and relics during their journey and at their destination. Tokens included bells, badges bearing the red cross, shells, the Virgin Mary and coins.'
Fluct
Oil on canvas 2012
Trevor Laming
'A journey undertaken as a requirement of belief whether by the refugee or pilgrim is a journey requiring faith. To find hospitality and friends is the hope, particularly when the journey is based on fear of failure. This painting could be experienced with these thoughts or as a simple landscape.'
It was great to see such a variety of work by a group of fellow UCA graduates; providing an excellent insight into current thought and practices, sympathetic to the site.
